If you love learning, you'll love Jane's Cool School.

Jane is a mom who has been homeschooling her non-verbal son who has autism. On her website she shares the books they read together, the music they listen to, and the math problems they do. That's mostly it. A visit to Jane's Cool School , which takes all of about 20 minutes, never fails to put a smile on my face.
It's neither baby food for the brain, nor a place of pretentious intellect. It hits the spot.
When Jane talks about a book like “Presenting Buffalo Bill – The Man Who Invented the Wild West," it makes me want to read it. (If you buy presents for kids, Jane's book reviews provide fun recommendations.)
When she points out how the minor key in the Ride of the Valkyries brands the women warriors as fierce and relentless in their duties, you can't help but take a moment and listen to the clip from Wagner's opera she links to.
Every week or so, we get a new math problem to peruse, a word problem framed in the life of Framer Brown. One time, he wondered how much he should budget per month to cover the cost of replacing the objects his two cats had destroyed over the past year:
- $300: area rug in kitchen (shredded)
– $150: winter coat (clawed to death)
– $100 each: 3 farmhand bed quilts (each mistaken for litter box)
– $200: office blinds (permanently bent from bird watching)
– $100: large ceramic planter (tipped over so many times that it finally cracked)
– $ 78: small ficus tree (casualty of repeatedly tipped over planter)
– $300: neighbor’s yarn stash (don’t ask)
Farmer Brown's dilemma makes me want to put on my thinking cap.
Janescoolschool.com is neither baby food for the brain, nor a place of pretentious intellect. It hits the spot. It's a mom, it's a son, it's learning together, served up like a cup of warm cocoa with marshmallows.
Check it out.
